Pink Sand Island

The run out to Pink Island

A rock stack off the coastline whose beach is crushed shell rather than sand, which is where the colour comes from. The run down the coast is half the trip.

What the price difference between the two boats buys

The detail

Getting off the boat
Depends entirely on the swell and the tide that morning. The captain decides on the water and his call is final.
On the way
The same water the sea sighting trips run, so dolphins and turtles are common and whales are possible in season.
Departure
Set to the tide. The captain will tell you when you book.

A rock stack with a crushed shell beach on it, an hour of coastline to get there, and the same water the sighting trips work.

What is included

Fresh tropical fruit, snacks, and a selection of cold beverages: coconut water, beer, sodas, and water.

Internationally certified captains and bilingual crew, with licensed and insured operations.

Three-quarter and full-day trips include lunch.

Fishing charters include all tackle and the necessary fishing licenses.

Sailfish, roosterfish and marlin are released. What you keep, the crew cleans and ices for you to take with you.

What this actually is

Book it for the coastline and the water. Standing on the rock is the part that might happen.

Why it is pink

The beach on it is crushed shell rather than mineral sand. Ground down fine and mixed with what the surf brings in, it reads pink in flat light and closer to grey when the sky is heavy. It is a small rock stack, not an island you spend a day on.

The coastline at Playa Garza from the air

The run down is half of it

Getting there takes you along the coastline past headlands, rock and beaches with no road to them. It is the same water the sea sighting trips work, so dolphins and turtles are common on the way and humpbacks are possible between August and November.

Whether you get off the boat

Sometimes. It depends on the swell and the tide that morning, and it is the captain's call made on the water rather than a promise made at booking. On the right day people wade in and stand on it. On the wrong day the surf around the rock makes that a bad idea, and you see it from the boat instead.
