What the price difference between the two boats buys

The detail

Gear
Masks, snorkels and fins are on the boat.
Swimmers
You do not need to be strong in the water. There are flotation aids on board and the crew stays in with the group.
Water clarity
December to April for visibility. May to November for the amount of life in it.
Departure
Set to the tide and the visibility on the day. The captain will tell you when you book.

Reefs and rock piles along this coast, picked on the morning rather than booked in advance. The crew goes in the water with you.

What is included

Fresh tropical fruit, snacks, and a selection of cold beverages: coconut water, beer, sodas, and water.

Internationally certified captains and bilingual crew, with licensed and insured operations.

Three-quarter and full-day trips include lunch.

Fishing charters include all tackle and the necessary fishing licenses.

Sailfish, roosterfish and marlin are released. What you keep, the crew cleans and ices for you to take with you.

Where you actually go

Not one fixed site. Choosing on the day is the reason to do this by boat at all.

Three guests in masks before going in

The spot is chosen that morning

Which reef you get depends on the swell, the tide and the visibility, because a spot that is clear on a calm day is unusable when there is water moving through it. The boat works the whole stretch of coast and the captain calls it on the water.

Freedivers under the surface over the rock

What is down there

Pufferfish, moray eels, rays, parrotfish and schooling jack around the structure. Turtles on the surface between spots. This is Pacific reef, so it is rock and boulder rather than the coral gardens of the Caribbean side, and the life is concentrated where the structure is.

A group in the water at a snorkel stop

If you are not a strong swimmer

Say so when you book. There are flotation aids on board, the crew stays in the water with the group, and nobody is asked to swim further than they want to. Children do this trip regularly with a parent in the water beside them.

Guests floating at the surface above the structure
Warm all year. The clarity is the part that moves.

Water, by season

Visibility and life move in opposite directions here. Neither half of the year is the wrong one, they are just different trips.

Dec to AprDry season. Calmer sea, less runoff, and the clearest water of the year.
May to NovMore nutrients and noticeably more life in the water, at the cost of some visibility.
All yearWarm enough that a wetsuit is not part of this.
